For nineteen-year-old Fletcher Boyd, life in Crown Valley was simple—until the day he discovered he had Magic. A force that promises unimaginable power but threatens madness and death.
To protect the ones he loves, Fletcher must leave his home and journey across Gardavia, searching for the truth behind magic’s deadly cost. But the road is treacherous, and dark forces lurk in the shadows—whispering that magic was never meant for Humans.
As the burden grows heavier, one question haunts him:
Is his magic a gift from the Creator… or a curse from the Defiler?
Why I wrote The Curse of Magic
I have always been drawn to stories of transformation—of ordinary people facing impossible circumstances and discovering who they truly are. Some of my greatest inspirations have been The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind, and The Shannara series by Terry Brooks. These stories filled me with wonder and excitement, and I knew I wanted to create something that would inspire others in the same way.
While many fantasy tales captivated me, I often found myself wondering: What if faith played a more central role in these stories? How would belief in something greater shape a character’s choices, especially when faced with the unknown—or the dreaded?
Gardavia is a world of continual Rebirths, much like I have experienced in my own life.
At its core, The Curse of Magic explores this idea. Everyone has faith in something. Whether in themselves, their abilities, or a higher power, that faith drives decisions, sustains hope, and sometimes, leads to ruin.
This story has been with me for over twenty years. It has gone through title changes, critique groups, and countless revisions. In many ways, this novel is where I learned how to write. More importantly, it’s where I learned to ask questions—about faith, redemption, and perseverance.
Now, after years of worldbuilding and storytelling, I am excited to share Gardavia with readers. Gardavia is a world of continual Rebirths, much like I have experienced in my own life. I hope that within these pages, readers will find hope and renewal, even in the darkest of times.
Although Secrets of the Veil was the first book I published, The Curse of Magic was the first book I ever wrote. And I’ve already begun outlining the sequel—because there is so much more of this world to explore. Now is the time to share it.
